This is a first draft. It has been written by us and published so that it can be read and corrected, but it has not yet been reviewed by a Ghanaian lawyer. We will remove this notice once it has, and the version number will tell you which text you read.
Who is responsible for your information
The operator named in the footer of every page on this site is the data controller for the information described here. Our registration with the Data Protection Commission, where we have one, is shown in the same footer.
What we collect, and why
When you join the waitlist
- Your name — so that we can address you properly.
- Your telephone number — the main way we will contact you. We store it in international format so that it can be matched reliably.
- Your email address — so that we can write to you, and so that we can confirm the address reaches you.
- Which animals interest you, and roughly what you expect to spend — so that we know how many animals to raise, and of which kind.
- How you heard about us — so that we know where to find the people we are trying to reach.
- The country your telephone number belongs to — worked out from the dialling code, so that we know whether you are writing from Ghana or from abroad.
Automatically, when you visit
- A one-way fingerprint of your network address, which we keep so that we can stop automated abuse of our forms. It cannot be turned back into the address itself.
- The page you arrived from and any campaign tags in the link, so that we know which of our efforts reached you.
- Anonymous page statistics, which do not identify you and do not use cookies for tracking.
The basis on which we hold it
We hold your waitlist details because you gave them to us and consented to be contacted. We hold the abuse-prevention records because we have a legitimate interest in keeping our systems working for everybody.
You can withdraw your consent at any time. Doing so does not make anything we did beforehand unlawful, and we will act on it promptly.
Who else sees it
Your details are seen by the small number of our staff who need them. Beyond that, we use service providers to run this site, to send email and to send text messages, and they process your information on our instructions only.
We do not sell your information. We do not share it for anybody else's marketing. We will disclose it where the law requires us to, and we will tell you when we are allowed to.
Some of our service providers operate outside Ghana. Where that is so, we satisfy ourselves that your information is protected to a comparable standard before we use them.
How long we keep it
Waitlist details are kept for two years from the day you join, unless you ask us to remove them sooner or you become a customer, in which case a separate notice will apply. Records we are required by law to keep are kept for as long as the law requires and no longer.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act 2012 (Act 843) you may ask us to:
- tell you what we hold about you, and give you a copy;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete what we hold, where we have no continuing reason or legal duty to keep it;
- stop using it for a particular purpose, including marketing;
- stop using it altogether while we look into an objection you have raised.
Write to us using the contact details in the footer. We will answer within the period the Act allows. We will not charge you for a first request.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Data Protection Commission of Ghana.
How we protect it
Access is limited to the staff who need it, every account that can see personal details requires a second factor to sign in, and every read of an export is recorded. Identity documents, where we later collect them, are encrypted and kept separately from the rest.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects you and the law requires it, we will tell you and the Commission.
Children
This site is not intended for people under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe we hold a child's details, please tell us and we will remove them.
